As already said, this is a phase at which we are transforming our participants into active citizens – those that should bring positive social change to our communities and our Europe. Therefore, in order to boost social activism among young people, this phase must not be skipped or overlooked. Here, we should support participants in finalization of their ideas and making their ideas come to life.
1. Production and Implementation of Creative Outputs:
Support and resources: Provide logistical and financial support to participants for the realization of their creative outputs, such as podcasts, games, performances, and virtual exhibitions, or any other outputs they’ve produced, or your team has created for this event. It is important to coordinate and facilitate this aspect of the project. Only by doing this, participants will be able to experience that their ideas and activism matters and could facilitate positive social change.
Allow participants to choose coordinators among themselves who will be in charge of organizing the group, coordinating the work on output finalization and be in touch with you as organization which will technically ensure everything that their idea materialize. This could include ensuring permits, providing security at activities, arranging materials needed for participants, etc.
Public showcasing: Once the output is ready – be it if we speak about the sketch of the graffiti, idea for the flash mob, public escape game or some digital output like virtual exhibitions, podcasts, etc., it is time to present it to the public. This activity has two important aspects – first, it allows participants to experience activism, and second, it will engage other citizens, raising awareness far beyond those that are directly involved in your activity.
Here, you should, together with participants, organize public events or online showcases to display the projects developed during the hackathons. In case of public events, you can think of spaces where large number of citizens are gathering like schools, community centers, public squares, parks, etc. Speaking about the digital outputs, you can create virtual exhibitions accessible via a dedicated website or through virtual reality platforms, where visitors can explore digital artwork, play games, or listen to podcasts from anywhere in the world.
